Winter Warmth for Babies – Cosy Baby Drive

Dr. Adila Omar from RK Khan Hospital is raising awareness and sponsorship of winter warmth package for low birth weight babies ( < 2.5kg). For the month of July, the babies at the following hospitals will benefit… RK Khan, Addington and Mahatma Gandhi

Hypothermia is defined by the World Health Organization as a core temperature < 36.5° C (97.7° F). In premature infants, hypothermia increases morbidity and mortality.

According to the World Health Organization, the condition is prevalent in every continent. The most significant ramifications are often seen in developing and low-resource areas around the world, where awareness of the issue is only beginning to be brought forth.

In our South African setting many of our patients will need to get home via public transport or walking in temperatures that are not appropriate for a new-born who does not have adequate clothing on.

We would love to help Adila Omar provide each baby with a winter warmth package that includes a hat, romper, blankets and a blanket for the mums.

Adila will be personally distributing these packages to ensure that they get to the babies that it’s intended for.

Let’s help these babies to keep warm and prevent poor outcomes or re-admission in a highly preventable situation.
